Your child’s vision is of utmost importance to their future. Children as well as infants should be evaluated closely to ensure proper visual development. The sooner a child has an eye exam, the sooner we can ensure their visual acuities, eye health and, most importantly, the developmental aspects of their vision. We can help remove potential obstacles and increase their ability to learn, to thrive in school and in life.

WHY SHOULD CHILDREN GET EYE EXAMS?

Physically, children change constantly and so quickly. This is also true of their eyes and vision.

Did you know that 80% of the harmful UV (ultraviolet) radiation your child will be exposed to in their lifetime, here in Florida, will happen prior to their 18th birthday?

10% of boys and 1% of girls are color blind, therefore, we check that on every visit with children. We also check 3D stereo vision to make sure computer and video game use is not messing up their eyes.

A common eye condition, Myopia, is commonly diagnosed in childhood. It's most frequent symptom is nearsightedness, or the inability to see objects clearly at a distance. Today, more than 40% of Americans are nearsighted, and that number is increasing at an alarming rate, especially among school-age children.

WHEN SHOULD CHILDREN GET AN EYE EXAM?

Vision is closely linked to the learning process. Many children will not complain of vision problems simply because they do not know what “normal” vision looks like. Does your child always complain of headaches and none of their doctors have an answer? If your child performs poorly in school, complains of headaches or struggles with homework, it is important to have their vision evaluated. Let us check their eyes to see if correcting their vision could solve the problem.

We serve children ages 7 and up. Children should be seen annually while in school to ensure that vision isn’t an impediment to their learning. Regular eye examinations are important for seeing more clearly, learning more easily and preserving your vision and visual health for life.

Dependent on the maturity of the child, children are eligible for contact lenses. Girls are 2-3 years sooner than boys, but all of them are eligible by the age of 10-13 depending on the child.
